Maybe your lower esophageal sphincter is weak? The lower esophageal sphincter works like a check valve, it lets food in your stomach and keeps the gas from getting out. There is a test they can do to check if your lower esophageal sphincter or upper esophageal sphincter is weak its called esophageal manometry. Many hospitals do not do this test because they dont have the equipment. Many people with gerd also have a hiatal hernia. A hiatal hernia is sometimes missed on an endoscopy

Your theory on how you got gerd was fascinating. I wonder did you drink a lot of diet soda? I reckon thats what got me. That and to much orange juice.
Have you considered that maybe you did some kind of hurt to yourself before you chose to eat more healthy? That maybe your body told you something was incorrect so you chose to eat more healthy, but by then it was to late? I am not a doctor maybe your gerd is not that terrible and will clear up excellent luck to you,

You’re right, though, in that I do have laryngopharyngeal reflux. Thing is, I get symptoms of GERD as well. I guess it was just simpler to diagnose me with GERD as a catch-all, with the realization that my kind of acid reflux attacks my vocal cords.

Well, I take 30mg Prevacid once daily (in the morning, before I eat anything) and it does the trick nicely.

Sounds like laryngopharyngeal reflux, and not GERD. The treatment for that condition is alot more aggressive. Usually requiring twice the dose for GERD. I have it that condition, and have gotten aspiration pneumonia because of it. Gonna switch to Prevacid coz Protonix is one messed up med. Avoid that one if you can.

But I would try something like ranitidine before I went for something like Prevacid, unless your reflux is extremely severe.

It can work for many people, yes, but it is a milder medication than something like Prevacid. I was on it for probably 7-8 months before it stopped working for me, and my doctor switched me to Prevacid.

Apparently I accidentally removed a comment… but, umm, it’s not at ALL harmful to have lessons before age 16 if you are properly trained. My nodules were caused from my REFLUX, which washed ACID over my vocal cords. You don’t reckon that can be at all damaging??

Once I was on the reflux pills my voice went back to normal again. And I have never had any problems with it since. So my vocal problems were clearly NOT a result of improper training as you seem to reckon.

i got acid reflux and it sucks. it is horrible. i just came from tha doctor a couple of hours ago. i was prescribed prevacid. my doctor said no more beer!!!! that really sucks

because ive been on nexium for about 10 months and i dont want to be on it for the rest of my life even tho its not healing my stomach like its spose to… anyways thanks for posting this i dont know anyone else who has it!
