High Estrogen Levels and Acid RefluxEstrogen is actually a female reproductive hormone. During the stage of the female menstruation cycle, the estrogen production is controlled by Luteinizing Hormone or commonly known as the hormone LH. The “yellow body” or the corpus lutem is directly triggered by the hormone LH to produce to needed estrogen. In the female reproductive system, the estrogen plays a crucial role in the female fertility and particularly in the ovulation period.
This further explains that estrogen is the dominant hormone during the menstrual cycle. So, if a woman has deficient estrogen production, she may notice several symptoms like hot flashes, headaches, vaginal dryness, night sweats and many others. Once the estrogen level is low, the normal feedback mechanism of the hypothalamus and pituitary won’t function hence one will have an irregular menstruation cycle.
If there is a low level of estrogen, then also expect the high estrogen levels. High estrogen is mostly caused by pregnancy. The estradiol, which is the predominant type of estrogen that is circulating around the body, are around 45 pg/ml during menstruation. But in the ovulation stage, the estrogen level rises to 200-400 pg/ml. The high level of estrogen, according to some studies, can also promote obesity and develop high blood pressure. Aside from obesity, the risk for gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is also linked with high estrogen levels. This is basically a condition where the esophagus becomes irritated or inflamed due to the backing up of acid from the stomach. This only show that estrogen deficiency does not only affect the reproductive system but can also affect the other parts of the body if left untreated.
